The Urban League Guild was organized in 1949 by an integrated group of League workers and well wishers for the purpose of aiding in publicizing the aims and programs of the Urban League of Rhode Island, to reach areas and individuals in the community not reached through typical channels. The Guild’s further intention was to add financial assistance to some of the League’s programs.
The Urban League Guild of Rhode Island, like the National Council of Guilds, supports the Urban League through activities that enhance the quality of life in the community. The Guild, through its fund raising efforts, has contributed thousands of dollars annually to the Urban League Scholarship Fund. Many minority youngsters, who might not otherwise have been able to attend college have benefited from the Guild’s support.
Membership is open to all persons (regardless of gender, age, race or ethnicity) that have an interest in the Urban League and are will to assist in carrying its message throughout the community. All members must be paid members of both the Urban League and the Urban League Guild.
