  • Black population in RI more than doubles due to migration from Southern States
1866
  • RI General Assembly strikes down segregated schools
1880
  • RI passes first civil rights law
1910
  • September 29, Committee on Urban Conditions Among Negroes established in New York City.
1911
  • Committee merged with the Committee for the Improvement of Industrial Conditions Among Negroes in New York (founded in New York in 1906), and the National League for the Protection of Colored Women (founded in 1905) to form the National League on Urban Conditions Among Negroes.
1920
  • The name Committee on Urban Conditions Among Negroes was shortened to the National Urban League or NUL.
